I haven’t always been in this business – it just seems that way! When I changed careers at the end of 1993, after more than 30 years at The Hamilton Spectator, I chose Real Estate and I wondered what I could possibly do to make my name stand out when there were already 600 established salespeople in Burlington, not to mention all the others in the surrounding areas of Hamilton and Oakville.
After much pondering, I determined that if there’s a woman out there that can resist a recipe, I haven’t met her yet. And guess who usually chooses their salesperson! Over the years I have done a lot of volunteer work – The Spec’s social committee, Bronte Harbour Yacht Club, Mozart Chamber Orchestra and more. I always seemed to end up in charge of the food at the fundraisers and as a result I collected a lot of great recipes. I am not a great cook; just ask my husband, Eddie. He’ll tell you that he taught me everything I know. (Not quite true!)
I had twelve thousand 4"x6" business cards printed with a recipe on the back and managed to hand them all out in my first year of selling real estate. That quickly evolved into "Franko’s Favorites", a weekly recipe in the Real Estate section of the Burlington Post, our community newspaper. It wasn’t long before I had to make sure I was always well groomed before I left home because invariably, someone would say to me when I was out and about, "Oh, you’re the recipe lady"!
So far, no one has called me and said "I really enjoyed your recipe for butter tarts, please come list my home tonight." However, Franko’s Favorites has helped me immensely to get my "foot in the door". People are forever telling me that they feel they know me and my family because of my "Dear Readers" introduction to the recipe. My slogan "all the right ingredients" ties in with the recipe theme and I think you’ll find that I have "all the right ingredients" to be a successful Realtor.
Over the years, many people have put their trust in me. I don’t take that trust lightly. I know how important the sale of your home and the purchase of another is to you and your family and I use my experience and expertise to guide you through the process.
I believe in constantly upgrading my skills and education so that I can represent your best interests, whether it’s pricing your home accurately, marketing it effectively or negotiating strongly to get you the best price in the least amount of time with the least amount of stress.
From the beginning, I have consistently been a top producer and an award winning real estate agent. Although recognition from my peers and my company is always nice, the award itself is of little importance to me. What is important to me is that when all is said and done, is that you feel I have put your interests first, that this has been a great experience and that I have earned your trust and respect. From now on, when you think Real Estate, I want you to think Carol Franko. That’s the award I want to achieve.
